first_imgWadih Fares and William (Bill) Gates have been reappointed as directors of the Waterfront Development Corporation board, the province announced today, Dec. 20. “Both members have made significant contributions to the board in development, risk management and finance,” said Economic and Rural Development Minister Percy Paris. “It makes good sense to have experienced members as we work together to grow our economy and focus on the capital region as a catalyst for economic development for Nova Scotia.” With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Fares serves as president and CEO of W.M. Fares Group, a building design, project management development firm. In addition to his work, Mr. Fares gives back to the community through a variety of roles, including Honourary Consul of Lebanon for the Maritime Provinces, capital campaign chair for the Bella Rose Theatre Project, and founder and honourary member of the Canadian Lebanese Chamber of Commerce. Bill Gates is a self-employed utility management consultant and holds a bachelor of engineering (Civil Engineering) and a master’s of business administration from Dalhousie University. He was general manager of the Halifax Water Commission and held various positions in private industry, including operational maintenance manager for several industrial plants. “Our board is made up of a diverse group of experienced professionals who bring a unique set of skills to the table,” said Colin MacLean, president and CEO of Waterfront Development Corporation Limited. “To have Mr. Fares and Mr. Gates reappointed maintains an excellent complement to our existing board and keeps WDCL poised to build and develop great waterfronts.” The four-year terms for the reappointments are effective immediately. Earlier this month, John Holm was appointed chair of the WDCL board of directors. Waterfront Development Corporation Limited is a provincial Crown corporation that manages provincially owned land along the waterfronts from Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Lunenburg.
