(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)Brian Lewerke had one of the worst outings of his college career on Saturday, in Michigan State football’s loss to Michigan. The Spartans signal caller completed just 5-of-25 passes for 66 yards, before being pulled from the game.He did catch a touchdown pass—the team’s lone score of the game—on a trick play, but was completely ineffective otherwise against an Elite Michigan defense. After the game, a 21-7 Michigan State football loss, Brian Lewerke revealed that he was dealing with a shoulder injury. He didn’t practice in the week ahead of the game, and with Purdue coming to town this weekend, it doesn’t sound like he’ll get much practice time this week either. On Monday, head coach Mark Dantonio commented on the injury.“I think this is a situation that gets better over the course of time,” Dantonio said of Lewerke’s right arm. “So I think even now, as the week progressed, he felt better. That’s why we made the decision and he made the decision that he would play.“I think it’s better today than it was yesterday, so we’ll have to make the decision as we go.”Today, Lewerke spoke to the media himself. He didn’t want to address the shoulder directly, though. From the Detroit Free-Press:“I don’t really want to talk about the arm right now,” Lewerke said. “I’m just working through it to see if I’ll feel good in practice. … Mentally, you gotta be ready to play no matter what. I’m still gonna come in here and study, whether I play or not. I’m gonna study as much as I can.”If he can’t go, it will probably be Rocky Lombardi against the Boilermakers. He came on in relief of Lewerke against the Wolverines, completing 1-of-2 passes for 9 yards.[Detroit Free-Press]last_img read more
