Hakim urges Lighting dept DG to maintain coordination with CESC

first_imgKolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim directed the Director General (DG) of the Lighting department and DG (Civil) to maintain coordination with CESC, so that there is no revenue loss of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation when it comes to charging them for taking up work on land belonging to the civic body.The matter came up for discussion at the monthly meeting of the KMC on Monday, when Congress councillor Prakash Upadhyay proposed that the KMC would levy hefty charges on CESC for laying cables or fixing light posts for the purpose of electricity connection on KMC land. “The CESC charges a monthly bill of Rs 30 crore from the KMC, which amounts to a whopping Rs 360 crore in a year. But when CESC uses KMC land for their purpose, they do not pay the KMC enough,” Upadhyay said. Also Read – Centuries-old Durga Pujas continue to be hit among revellersResponding to his proposal, Hakim said the civic body is bound by some provisions of Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Electricity Act 2003, under which it levies charges on the power utility. “The concerned officials should remain alert and ensure that charges are levied upon CESC as per provisions of the two Acts,” he maintained. The Mayor instructed the DG of the Lighting department and DG (Civil) to address the issue in a proper manner and maintain liaison with CESC to prevent any revenue loss for the civic body in this connection.last_img
