Alienware M14x specs leak and M18x looks legit

first_imgMounting evidence suggests that Alienware has three new gaming notebooks on the way. These would be the predictable release of the M11x R3 (the third edition of the M11x), a 14-inch M14x, and then the M18x, which would presumably have an 18-inch display. Over the past few weeks we’ve seen the rumor mill heat up, a full review of the M14x, and even leaks from Dell. And now we have even more on the M18x and the M14x, both from what appears to be an employee on Dell’s own forums.First up is more near-confirmation that an M18x is, at the very least, in the works. A Dell social outreach/community liaison person has explicitly listed the M18x in his work history. This was just noticed over on the NBR forums and is especially interesting as the liaison seems to be pretty connected over at Dell, at least according to his 38,000+ forum posts and 14-year history at the company.AdChoices广告The same person seems to have also posted the full specs of the M14x. They basically match those we saw in the review and those posted by rumor site Dell-Labs recently. The two sets line up quite closely with the M14x packing second-gen Core i3/i5/i7 processors, up to 8GB RAM (Dell-Labs said 4GB), up to 750GB storage, a 14-inch LCD running at either 1366×768 or 1600×900 (Dell-Labs said 1920×1080) and Nvidia GT 555M graphics. Overall, it looks like these are the official specs, as they not only fall in line with older rumors but they do eliminate the questionable choices, like 19×10 on a 14-inch display and the 4GB RAM limit. No price or date was listed. You can see the screen grab below or read the article “M14x FAQ” (login required).Side point: we finally have the crucial weight/dimensions information we’ve been looking for. The post has it that the M14x will be 6.35 lb with the 8-cell battery. It will measure 1.49 inches x 13.27 inches x 10.17 inches (HWD). The current M15x is a good deal larger at 9.3 pounds and 1.9 x 14.9 x 12.1 inches. So, as suspected, the M14x is significantly more portable, which means this might not be the end of the M15x.The final bit of information floating around, and the most shaky of the bunch, is a few of the forum posters saying that Alienware will be announcing something on April 19th. It’s not clear what this will be, one poster said it would be the M11x R3, which would have Sandy Bridge (second-gen Core i3/5/7) processors. So it looks like we might have some real information on these computers soon. We’ve reached out to Alienware and are awaiting comment.m14x_review_leakm14x_review_leakdell_m18x_support_CMdell_m18x_support_01dell_m18x_leak_faqlast_img
