Nearly an inch of rain expected in first week of fall

first_imgThe first full day of fall is expected to bring with it rain to Southwest Washington. Widespread moderate to heavy rain is expected to begin along the coast late this afternoon and then slowly spread inland Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to a National Weather Service special weather statement.Rainfall totals from today through the end of the week are expected to reach nearly an inch in the inland and one to two inches on the coast and in the mountains, the weather service reports. The predicted rainfall would be the most rain the area has seen in months and so authorities warn that residual oil and grease on the roadway will likely create slick driving conditions. The weather agency warned of localized flooding, especially in areas affected by wildfires. Coastal regions may see wind gusts of up to 55 mph.last_img
